BlackSuns is a unique art studio, workshop, and gallery on the east side of Vancouver. Founded in 2014 by Kelly Ready, the inspiration to construct and open BlackSuns Studio came from Kelly's desire to inspire people to the importance of social and environmental issues and to express through sculpting, industrial furniture, painting, jewelry, industrial and expressive art utilizing a majority of reclaimed and repurposed materials.

With a technical industrial background, Kelly is inspired by great industrial artists like Edgar Brandt who was a master of art deco ironwork from Paris in the early 1890's. Brandt also had a technical background and combined his industrial capabilities with artistic abilities in his amazing turn-of-the-century French metalworks, furniture and lighting. Brandt was in Paris when Rodin dominated sculpting, and at the time of Picasso's first visit to Paris, when Monet, Renoir, and Toulouse-Lautrec were all displayed together. They all influenced furniture, architecture, jewelry, and art forever. For us, it is a privilege to have the opportunity to unleash our hidden talents, passion, and anger in a creative way.

At BlackSuns, we work with metal, wood, glass, stone and almost anything you can think of. Kelly's background includes building a machinery manufacturing business specializing in prototyping machinery and manufacturing innovations. For Kelly, art is inventing, be it new methods or the works themselves. Kelly learned many techniques working in industry which he now applies to technically challenging art. Kelly wants the opportunity to share his inspiration with other artistic disciplines.  Come visit us at BlackSuns - we are creating wild stuff!

We also display other artist's work who may not have the opportunity to show their art. The slogan at BlackSuns is 'We are insolent and angry' but in a creative way, which helps us to release those angry emotions. It was Buddha who said, "Do not try to change an angry person, just redirect that negative energy into a positive outlet." We are passionate people and that shows in our work. Come visit us at BlackSuns and we will be happy to give you a tour of our facility, where we are always adding new equipment and discovering new methods to achieve our vision to inspire and educate. We are open to opportunities to work with other skilled trades and artists. We love to express and produce cutting edge art, though not always politically correct, but done with honest passion.

BlackSuns also creates architectural furniture and decorative architectural custom work. Kelly works with
his former industrial manufacturing facilities and sub-vendor contacts to produce one-of-a-kind industrial, or furniture projects. We are not only artists but also technical designers and fabricators. Contact us for possible commission work.
